Work Experience
Tesla is a fast-growing technology company that aims to shift humanity away from fossil fuels by building a world powered by solar energy, run on batteries, and transported by electric vehicles. As an electric vehicle manufacturer and clean energy company, Tesla designs sustainable systems that are massively scalable and their energy generation and storage products intentionally work together with their electric vehicles to amplify their overall impact, ultimately resulting in the greatest environmental benefit possible.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern within the Service Tooling & Industrial Engineering Team of Tesla Energy, I was a collaborator in the specification, design, and validation of the tools and equipment used to service Tesla Energy products world-wide. I worked closely with other design engineers and engineering technicians to identify, develop, and refine practical solutions to enable fast, seamless, and revolutionary service.
A few highlights of my work experience at Tesla include:
- Creating the 2D/3D design package and instructions for proper fabrication and manufacturing of a battery discharge tool used by field engineering technicians when servicing Powerpacks and Megapacks
- Traveling domestically to work directly with field installers and technical support teams during Solar Panels, Solar Roof, and Powerwall installations at customers' homes
- Performing verification and validation testing and assisting with engineering prototype builds of: battery enclosure removal / opening / thermal management tools for Powerpacks and Megapacks, pneumatic tools for roof shingle tear-offs for Solar product installations, sustaining design improvements to minimize natural weather damage and reduce wild animal interaction risks with Megapacks
- Designing and fabricating mechanical test fixtures and enclosures to assist with PCB design validation and system level functional testing of custom Tesla electrical diagnosis / troubleshooting tools used by field installers during energy product installations and servicing visits
